Mieko and Fred
When Harold found his way into Hi School, Jim had to drive himself to and from the school bus, I told Jim he had to keep whatever he was driving in first gear, well time passed and I happened to be home one day when Jim was driving home, right above the house the road runs downhill, Jim was probably doing close to 30 miles an hour.  When he got in the yard I asked him what gear he had that jeep in, he said NUATRAL.  He didn’t get reprimanded, because I did say           DO NOT GET ABOVE FIRST GEAR.

I would guess Jim was 3 years old, we ate lunch in Healdsburg, when we were finished eating the wife got up to pay the bill, naturally Jim went along, standing in line to pay the cashier was a good looking young lady with a short skirt on, I don’t know just what Jim was thinking, but suspect all that leg skin looked inviting, Jim bear hugged a leg right up where those legs forked, needless to say what that lady did, but I do know she could jump straight up maybe six feet, and straight ahead 6 feet, and the sound that came out of her didn’t sound human.  I don’t know what Jim thought, but probably thought what he did was OK.

I don’t remember the year but when Jim was probably 5 years old we took a trip with friends thru southern Oregon, southern Idaho, Jackson Hole Wyoming, and somehow found our way home.  Going thru Chirstmas Valley Oregon we stopped at a rest stop, it was pretty obvious Jim didn’t want to rest, if he  rested it was behind a sage bush, when it was time to travel, we got in the pickup and left without Jim, and one thing for sure, Jim did not like the sight of the rear end of our pickup, leaving him in the hottest, flattest country he ever saw, he was running as fast as he could trying to catch us, Stanley and Hazel Remstedt, our friends were behind us and could not make Jim quit running and get in their car, I would guess maybe a mile down the road we discovered we didn’t have Jim, so we turned around went back, Jim was still running, I don’t think we have to ask him if he wanted a ride, but I do know we NEVER left  him behind again .

Memories of Jim: helping guide a novice through castrating young bulls (my job was counting); handing me a bag of delicious plums from the ancient plum tree in front of his old house (I made plum jam); at Thanksgiving dinners with little children on his lap; wonderful teddy bear hugs; watching Jim and Dana guide Charles and Benjamin to be respectful, handy, self-sufficient men. A man of few words, my memories are mostly visual and I will treasure them.

Lots of memories but the one that keeps crossing my mind is the pig tails.  Liv and I putting pig tails in your hair.  Dad could only have a little pony though.  HAHAHA good times!  I will never forget you making it to my graduations.  My wedding as well.  I love that whenever my dad talks about your guys' memories together, (no matter what it's about) it always ends with how you were the most loyal friend anyone could ever ask for!  R.I.P. Jim we love you forever and always.
